ak skill

ak skill verify

Classify one local skill environment as ok, missing, corrupt, or unknown and consume its raw JSON correctly.

Use ak skill verify to compare a local skill's current runtime: declaration with its per-skill record and expected cache markers.

Usage

ak skill verify <kit>/<skill>
FlagDefaultDescription
--kits-dir <dir>AGENTKIT_KITS_DIR or ./kitsSelect the local source declaration.

The command is read-only, performs no network request, starts no package tool, and never prompts.

Interpret status

StatusProcess exitMeaningNext step
ok0Manifest hash and environment kind match, and expected pyvenv.cfg or node_modules markers exist.Use the skill.
missing1No per-skill manifest exists.Run ak skill install <kit>/<skill>.
corrupt1The manifest is unreadable, hash/kind drifted, or expected cache markers are absent.Run ak skill repair <kit>/<skill>, then verify again.
unknown0Runtime management is opted out, or the loaded runtime type is not managed.Check AGENTKIT_SKILL_RUNTIME; do not treat this as healthy.

Verification is a structural health check. It does not hash every installed package byte, contact registries, scan vulnerabilities, or execute the skill.

JSON and streams

--json writes a raw object to stdout, not the shared success envelope:

{"kit":"engineer","skill":"web-testing","status":"ok"}

For missing and corrupt, the object is still written before process exit 1; there is no second JSON error envelope. Resolution and I/O failures that occur before a status use the structured error envelope on stderr.

Human status is written to stderr. --quiet does not suppress the direct status line.

Other exits

ExitMeaning
1Status was missing or corrupt, or unexpected verification I/O failed.
2The single reference or flags were invalid.
4The source skill has no runtime block.
5The source kit or skill was not found.

Missing or extra positional arguments currently exit 1 through Cobra's pre-command validation path.
