ak skills

ak skills inspect

Show a verified SkillX release's metadata, provenance, file list, and declared scripts without reading executable files.

Use ak skills inspect to review a SkillX release before you decide anything else: who published it, where it came from, which files it holds, and which scripts it declares. The command reads SKILL.md frontmatter only. It never requests executable or declared-script files.

Usage

ak skills inspect <@publisher/slug[@version][@sha256:<hex>]> [flags]

Supply exactly one reference. Without a version, the newest published stable release is selected. A digest without a version is refused by the provider.

Options

FlagDefaultDescription
--source <provider>skillxSelect the skill source. Only skillx is supported.

Shared flags are described in CLI conventions.

Requirements

SkillX must be on: after ak update --ssot, or with AGENTKIT_SKILLX=1. Otherwise the command fails with source skillx is disabled, names the step that turns SkillX on, and exits 2. Authentication, the ak secrets ref SKILLX_TOKEN, the loopback-only development overrides, and cache behavior are the same as for ak skills resolve.

Output

Text output lists the release, then each file. A file that cannot be read is marked [declared script, not readable] or [executable, not readable].

JSON uses kind=skills.inspect with the resolve fields plus these under data:

kind, channel, createdAt, name, description
publisher: handle, verifiedBy
sourceProvenance: repo, commit, path
files[]: path, mode, size, sha256, readable
declaredScripts, exposure
compatibility: declared, verified ("unknown")
license: declared, entitlement ("readable")
frontmatter

The result is untrusted: compatibility.verified is always unknown, and inspecting does not approve the skill for install or execution. When SkillX is unreachable, verified cached data is served with an offline_stale warning.

Effects and exits

The command is read-only apart from the disposable SkillX cache under AGENTKIT_HOME/cache/skillx.

ExitMeaning
0The release was inspected.
1SkillX is offline with no verified cache, or the credential was refused.
2SkillX is disabled, flags or arguments are invalid, or the request is unsupported.
5The release was not found.
7The release is untrusted, revoked, yanked, or quarantined, or an identity or tree check failed.
